"All Things TV"---Ummm, uh, you know ... I wrote a book

WFAN sports radio host Mike Francesa has a pretty-good sized ego, for sure, but he said something that was dead-on correct the other day:

"It used to be you had to accomplish something before you wrote a book," the talkie opined.

Francesa was referring to New York Jets coach Rex Ryan whose new tome "Play Like You Mean It" was just released.

It is pretty amazing that Ryan, who appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman" Monday, would write a book as the Jets have not won a Super Bowl since the days of Joe Namath.

Heck, they haven't even won an AFC Championship since Namath, as he would say, "pah-lay-ed"

Even more galling, Ryan took an achievement from another sport, college's "Final Four" and applied it to the NFL.

"We made it to the Final Four two years in a row," Ryan often brags.

I didn't hear him say that on his visit to Letterman ... wise move ... but he spoke his usual ummms and uhhhs, if not the "ya knows" he is known for.

While Ryan's wife's reported toe fetish was apparently off-limits, Brett Favre's crude conduct wasn't.

That was an interesting call by Letterman, though Ryan probably made it clear he would not discuss that.

The talk-show host had to ... excuse me ... toe the line on that one.

Let me be clear, I am a New York Giants fan but I used to root for both football teams.

Before Rex Ryan began opening his mouth, that is.
