"All Things TV"---Tuning out, turning off? Over 1M fewer Americans have TV sets

Nielsen, the TV ratings company, recently reported that over a million fewer households own a TV set from last year.

While it's just a slight dip after two decades of growth and still a healthy number (114.7 million) overall, fewer TV's does say something about us.

The worst thing that can be read into this, in my opinion, is the damage that rising home foreclosures is doing on the economy.

Fewer homes, after all, means fewer televisions necessary as little Jimmy and mom move into the grandparents house.

That also means less business for cable and satellite TV services, as well.

A more positive and optimistic view on there being fewer TV sets is the rising use of computers and tablets to watch TV and video programming.

Turning pessimistic again, however, perhaps the reduced quality of programming, including more reality shows that will ever be needed, may be turning people away from the tube.

While "The Amazing Race" and "Undercover Boss" are well done, perhaps Bethenny Frankel from the Housewives series does not deserve her own show?

People's pretty much mundane lives don't call for a show, they really just serve to make one consider leaving the TV out on the curb.

As long as it's not a high-def or 3D model ...

Thanks for reading ... tty soon.
